Lines of Desire (11 April- 9 May)



A drawing exhibition featuring 22 artists including Alice Maher,Folake Shoga and Brian Jenkins. An Oldham Art Gallery and Liverpool John Moores University touring exhibition featuring twenty two artist from Britain,Europe and South Asia,all from different disciplines,but brought together by the practice of drawing. Using traditional materials to explore representations of the human body,Lines of Desire examines the accelerating connections between Eastern and Western drawing conventions and aesthetics,as well as looking at artists’ use of computer technologies as a graphic tool. The exhibition includes a number of specially commissioned works,included Alice Maher’s,which explore cultural perceptions of hairstyles in the construction of female identity and appearance,Folake Shoga’s look at pregnancy and birth relation to concepts of the goddess and Catholicism,and Brian Jenkins’ large self portraits,investigating perceptions of disability.
